For many Vegas has been or is a pit of sludge where the seedy underbelly of the town go to recharge empty baggies an rub elbows with the scummy elite. Personally, to me its every bit of an institution, its a place where one can satiate the cravings of unbridled garage rock to the tune of psych to surf to punk any night of the week. A lo-fi haven that pisses character.
I was a late arrival, and unfortunately missed the earlier acts. But fortunately I did pop in to see Flavor Crystals. Very dope set of dudes in for Minnesota, complete with stereotypical friendly Midwestern demeanor. The sound was a tasteful re visitation of late 90's early 2000's indy chill, Complicated, layered, and deep where need be but executed under a vale of simplicity. Reminded me a lot of the early an playful Built to Spill albums. A type of sound that will never fail to bring a smile. For the love of fuck Check em' Out! With that said, I don't mean to detract from Ancient River at all. A tight 2 piece that the small stage had a hard time containing. 2 balls of energy coming together to create dope ass jams. Hailing from the swampy moss ridden forest town of Gainsville, Fl, coming in hot with a lackadaisical precision to their enigmatic desert trip, hard driving a melodic.
